The Jersey Shore covers 130 miles of the state’s coastline from Sandy
Hook to Cape May Point. Everyone born and raised in New Jersey learns their way "Down the Shore" at an early age.
During the summer
months the Jersey Shore is teeming with millions of visitors who come from everywhere. Rich with history and tourism, the
Jersey Shore is a cultural hotspot.
The Jersey Shore is home to several
professional surfing tournaments, so surfers can be seen riding waves almost every day during the summer. Kayaking, parasailing, crabbing, sailing, surfing and diving are all fun and exciting ways to spend a summer vacation
with your friends and family at the Jersey Shore.
Many shore towns, like
Ocean Grove and Cape May, are clustered with bright and picturesque Victorian-era homes. While other shore towns, like Seaside
Heights and Point Pleasant, draw hordes of visitors to their local boardwalks for amusement park rides and games.
Here, along the northeastern shores of the Atlantic Ocean, a great many types of sea and sand
creatures can be found. Atlantic bottlenose dolphins are often seen from the beach, and Cape May has whale-watching tours
for humpback, finback and pigmy whales. Shorebirds include the sandpiper, piping plover, osprey, and terns. Scuba divers searching
for adventures will find reefs, shipwrecks, and an abundance of marine life that includes semi-tropical fish in the late
summer. Fisherman are also along the beach, bay, river outlets, and in party boats catching bass, fluke, bluefish, flounder,
pike, and cod. Deep sea fishermen go out for tuna and shark.
The nightlife
of the Jersey Shore has seen a diverse and constant evolution over several eras. Many
clubs like The Stone Pony of Asbury Park have featured legendary musical acts like Bruce Springsteen, Bon Jovi, The Drifters,
and a growing list of many more to become what is known as "The Jersey Shore Sound".
There are a variety of restaurants serving the freshest, local seafood as well as Jersey style subs and steak sandwiches.
Biplanes flying colorful advertising banners for local businesses are a constant sight along the surf during the summer.
